Here are a few of our suggestions on the when, where, how and why of things; so you don't have to fret over the details.

Getting there

Ryanair schedules daily flights to Bologna Airport, at a convenient 30-minute bus ride to the city centre. Alternatively, Milan centre and Florence Airport are well connected, each at about an hour's distance by fast train. If you can't hang around the Italian peninsula for long after the wedding, we suggest you book your flight back on Monday 8 June, assuming you'll be operating on sleep deficit the morning after the wedding.

Getting around Bologna on foot is easy enough if you're staying in the city centre. If you're staying outside the walls, we suggest Uber, which also allows you to book cheaper white taxis in-app. We don't normally rent a car if we're staying anywhere close to the city walls. This is due to citywide weekend pedestrianisation and prohibitive parking fees.

From the centre, the wedding venue lies in the flatland countryside at a 40-minute coach ride. We will be offering transport from-and-to the central Piazza XX Settembre as well as another convenient location outside the city walls. The transport schedule includes a single afternoon departure and a shuttle return between midnight and 3am, so you won't have to worry about designated drivers.

If you're thinking a private cab might be more your vibe, we strongly suggest you prebook this in advance.

Where to stay

For those wishing to stay in the historic centre, we would very much recommend you see what's available on Airbnb. At that time of the year this is typically a much better value-for-money option, and some places on there are really quite lovely. If you’re going down this route, the transport to and from the wedding party will pick you up and take you back to near Piazza XX Settembre, close to both the central bus station and the train station.

Alternatively, we’ve blocked a number of rooms at Grand Hotel Élite just outside the city walls (let’s call it a 10-minute walk to the walls and 25 minutes to Via Ugo Bassi). If you quote 'Wedding: Francesca and David 6/6/2026' when booking by email, you should get a preferential rate of €120 per room/night inclusive of breakfast there. We’ll be setting up a transport pick-up and drop-off point for the wedding venue there too.

Cheekily, if you prefer something a little fancier, there’s Suite Hotel next door to Élite. Their room rates fluctuate and we don’t have any agreements with them, but you shouldn’t have to worry about transport to and from the wedding if you get a room there.
